GETTING CUSTOMERS.

It doesn’t matter how much work you are putting into your business as a startup. You have to think about how to get customers for a new business, If you are not acquiring customers, your business doesn’t grow. The price of getting customers can be a very stressful time as a business owner.

I’ll show you how to relive some of the stress you may be feeling by showing you the different ways to get customers for your business.

HOW TO GET CUSTOMERS FOR A NEW BUSINESS: FACEBOOK GROUPS.

Is Facebook dead? I thought so until I discovered Facebook groups and found my ideal customer hanging out with all the other potential customers. Someone who is interested in theatres, are most likely going to be interested in a new play. But hold on, a moment — Don’t go promoting your play/services without adding value. In fact, there is no need to promote anything. People will see your value by the way you contribute to the group and check out your page/profile in their own time.

EDUCATE YOUR IDEAL CUSTOMER

Write things that your ideal customer would want to read. If you are a photographer, share tips on the techniques they can achieve with their own phone/tablet. If you are a gardener, share tips on how to maintain your garden. Share advice in what area you specialise in, and this will get people to go to your site.

It is like going into a shop and trying a food sample without no obligation to buy. If it tastes good, the chances are, people will go back for more or decide to take the whole product to devour in their own time.

CUSTOMER PROCESSS FLOW

My first referral process was taking emails as customers came into a theatre production. The emails I received were contacted when the next production was being performed. I was not consciously aware why I was doing it, but it saved me a lot of time and money. I would email them to thank them for attending a production and then keep them in the loop at various times.

Because I always kept my customer list in in the loop and provided a good service, they were happy to recommend others to come to the play. This helped to reduce my marketing spread and overall expenses.

TWITTER

This isn’t a platform, I use personally, however, I know people who have found customers on twitter. This has come off the back of someone searching for advice or recommendations and your business being on hand to provide that need.

You can do this via the search option in Twitter and typing your keywords.

HAVE AN ONLINE PRESENCE

Social media is a new way to build trust and get closer to your ideal customer. It’s a way to be global and not just local.

A key factor on social media is people want to speak to a real human being. It’s important that are active online and doing things that allows people to build a trust with you. On the back of that they are more likely to work with you.

I want you to be clear about social media. If you are not active or engaged on social media, It’s like ignoring someone in real life.

THEY DIDN’T BUY, ASK WHY.

I used to work in sales for company and there were times that people were initially interested and then you would not hear from them again. I never followed up because the sales were coming all the time like London buses (They come all the time). It was only when the sales dried up that I decided to follow up and I discovered some fundamental things.

  • Reasons they didn’t buy
  • Things I needed to change in my selling approach.

Some of the customer didn’t buy because they felt they needed to be sold more on the product and that gave me the knowledge to fine tune my sales approach.

Always follow up on your customers. Just a quick template email will work wonders in discovering why someone didn’t buy or nudge someone that just needed a reminder.

FACEBOOK ADS.

Very effective, very effective indeed.

For example, If I were a wedding photographer looking for potential customers, I could launch a ad targeting couples that have their relationship status as ENGAGED. I can even target the area that I want my search to cover.

The power of Facebook has been ignored because it’s not the most popular thing amongst teenagers, however, for business owners, it still has its power.

GOOGLE.

If you work hard on your SEO, it is possible for people to find you. I’ve heard people say SEO no longer works on Google. People know all the tips and tricks. It’s true, but there’s also rankings, content. and keywords that can make a difference to how people find you. Your SEO could be the missing element that potentially bring you a stream of new customers.

You don’t need to do all of these suggestions. I am confident though that if you were to commit to 4–6 of them, you will start to see changes within 1 month. The best thing will be to test the ideas to see which one works best for your business.
