Want To Work For Myself But Don’t Know What To Do

Speak life.

That is what I heard every Sunday in church. And One day, I spoke my thoughts and decided to become a busines owner.

Most of us want to start our own business. The fact that you are reading this article tells me you are thinking about it.

How do you start when you have people around you telling you that it is a bad idea? Inspite of this you still can’t shake the internal voice on repeat “I want to work for myself but don’t know what to do.”

You make that step otherwise you are going to regret it.

Here are a few things that may suggest you should be working for yoursel.

1. YOUR BOSS IS A DAN

A dan is someone who just keeps telling you what to do. They dictate how you should do your job.

How are you expected you to do your job properly if someone is dictating how it should be done?

If you ever feel like your Boss is a dan and you could do a better job, it could be a clear sign you should be working for yourself.

You are not doing yourself any favours by staying in a place where you are not able to grow.

2. GET SH*T DONE

If you’re someone that does not need to be pushed into doing something that needs to be done, you’re meant to work for yourself.

If you need someone to hold your hand — stick to your job.

If you are all about getting shit done, knowing that today is what matters, you should be strapping up those entrepreneur overalls, putting on those ‘I work for myself socks’ and zipping up that self-motivation into your own business.

3. ARE YOU BREATHING ALRIGHT?

When I returned to work after three months, doing my own thing. I felt like I had problems breathing.

True Story.

My breathing was so shallow and when I tried to breathe deeply nothing would happen. I would sit at my desk thinking about having my own business. People would come up to me and ask if I were alright because I would be staring blankly at my computer monitor.

I was not alright. I was thinking about going it alone. If you are having the same thoughts, you should go it alone too.

4. YOU HAVE A LITTLE SOMETHING ON THE SIDE.

Business owners don’t just quit their jobs and start a business. The minimise the risk and begin by starting a little side hustle. I remember working with a salesperson in high pressured environment that started a food business at the weekends. They would arrive to work on Mondays, exhausted but happy because they were working on getting the hell out.

If you are already doing something on the side — that entrepreneur spirit is waiting to be unleashed.

5. DO IT MY WAY.

Frank Sinatra ‘My way’ is about doing things his way.

It is not about having an attitude about taking advice, however, if you see someone explain something and you believe that you can get better results doing it your way.

You will do it your way, regardless if that person is an expert.

6. POLITICS AS USUAL.

For whom? Not you because you do not pay it no mind.

When everyone is gossiping. You do not listen.

When the sales target increased by 20% because everyone smashed target the previous quarter, my response was it is just business. Whereas everyone else was talking about going on strike and being negative.

I decided to get on with my work.

I knew it was going to happen before everyone else did because I was ahead of the pack. If you find yourself doing the same thing, you know what it means.

7. YOUR VISION IS BIGGER THAN WHAT YOU DO RIGHT NOW.

If you find yourself in a job, but your dreams are not your job. That should be a clear sign.

8. OBSESSION ON GROWTH.

People who want to work for themselves usually are on their game when it comes to self-development.

You usually listen to personal development audios or books. You probably do not watch the news or pointless YOUTUBE videos all day.

You have a collection of business books that you actually read.

You spend time each day to get wins in all areas of your life, health, spiritual, finances, social, love and relationships.

You are all about learning and growing.

9. ENTREPRENEURS TELL YOU THAT YOU SHOULD BECOME AN ENTREPRENEUR.

Real recognises real. People recognise people like themselves

If you have ever had an entrepreneur telling you, you should work for yourself, trust me they are not being nice. There is no time to be nice.

They are being direct. You should listen to what they are saying to you.

10. GUT, GUT, GUT

If your gut is telling you to work for yourself, do it. My gut is right most times. When my gut told me to stay away from a relationship, I should have listened to my gut. It would have saved me a lot of money and pain.

Follow your gut.

WHAT TO DO? WHAT TO DO?

I can’t really tell you what to do. The only person that can make that decision is you. I can only make suggestions. My last suggestion if you are still having trouble deciding — We only have one life to live on this earth and we don’t have any sequels.
